Cruising Around Marina Del Rey

Who needs dry land when ya got boats, you guys?! Scott and I took a short trip down the road to Marina Del Rey to celebrate Memorial Day and our friend Jenni’s birthday. (Hi Jenni!) We met a group of pals at the Fisherman’s Village, a cute little spot with shops, restaurants and a lighthouse. (It’s also known for being the former home to a famous banana stand.) We all chipped in to rent a boat from Marina Del Rey Boat Rentals. At only $15 per person, it was quite the deal! We spent a couple hours cruising around the Marina, snacking, sipping and waving at fellow boaters and paddle boarders. There were some shimmies involved too. And bows. And Rosé. If you’re ever in the area, grab some friends, pack a cooler and get ready to squeal and giggle at a few seals. Pro tip: Do not leave a cup of Rosé resting on the table. It will fall over into your lap. Continue Reading

Movies at Hollywood Forever Cemetery

Scott and I recently went to watch a movie at the historic Hollywood Forever Cemetery. This is one of my favorite things to do in LA. Like, the best. Cinespia is the awesome company that puts on these really well organized events. Every May, they release a line-up of movies that are so good, they usually sell out within a week or two. We’ve been to see Scream (where the audience screamed in unison), Back to the Future and now, Animal House. Here are my favorite things about movies at Hollywood Forever Cemetery: Continue Reading

Wheel House Cheese

Okay, my favorite things go like this. Scott, then corgis, then popcorn, then cheese. And I think wine and IPAs are in there somewhere. And queso. And guac. Okay there’s a bunch, but let’s move on to the point of this post. CHEESE! Scott and I made a visit to a new-ish cheese shop near our hood in LA, Wheel House. It’s a cute little spot filled with meats, charcuterie, olives, crackers, jams, and of course, CHEESE! Need a gift for mom this weekend? Cheese. Need a platter for a party? Cheese. We were a bit overwhelmed looking at the large selection of goodies. Blues, Bries, hard cheeses, soft cheeses. Oh good lawd, I was in paradise. Thankfully there were a couple very nice cheesemongers happy to steer us in the right direction. (Thanks Ben and Noble!) Continue Reading

48 Hours in Fredericksburg, Texas – Part 2

After tastings at 4 different wineries, Scott and I were in need of a bit of a reset. We took a quick power nap back at the hotel and downed a couple Dirty Chai’s from Java Ranch before setting off to explore the main drag in Fredericksburg. Side note: Some of the nicest people on the planet work at Java Ranch. Seriously! We went back the next morning and had so much fun chatting at the register that we almost forgot to order. Ha! Meanwhile on Main Street, we stopped into Hondo’s (a must), before meeting a lovely Longhorn named Bingo. Hey girl! Continue Reading

48 Hours in Fredericksburg, Texas – Part 1

I wanted to show Scott a bit more of Texas, so instead of going straight up I-35 and getting to Austin in less than 2 hours, we took a detour and drove to Fredericksburg, the home of Texas German. Crowds of people are lured to Fredericksburg each weekend for its charming strip of restaurants, bars and shops… and wine. The Texas Hill Country is the second largest wine region in the nation, and Fredericksburg is a popular place to make your home base before setting out on a tour of the many surrounding wineries. So popular, that I almost wasn’t able to book a wine tour. Spring Break + Bluebonnets in full bloom + gorgeous weather = no wine tours left! Lesson of the day: Book months ago. Continue Reading

San Antonio Days 3 & 4

Let’s continue with our San Antonio shenanigans, shall we?! We spent the day with my step mom Mona. She’s this wonderful person who has no fear and will conquer anything and everything she sets out to do. She sees the world in other creatives, and will encourage the heck out of you in just one short chat. Her enthusiasm and spirit make me feel like I am She-Ra. Mona took us to a new resto/bar in SA called Barbaro. It’s located in a great neighb of San Antonio—Monte Vista. A friend of hers (Hi Whitney!) met up with us and we all gushed about future creative projects we would someday hopefully work on together. It was fun, fun, fun. My favorite thing about this place (if I have to choose just one) is the off-the-menu drink called the Blanche Devereaux. I MEAN!! A drink named after my favorite golden-ager floozy? It’s made with lemon, bourbon, apricot liquor and honey syrup. Sign me up. My step bro John (Hi Juanito!) met up with us and had their glorious pizza. Don’t miss out on this place, y’all. It’s as cute as it is yummy. Continue Reading
