ModCloth is one of my favorite brands. They offer vintage inspired dresses, tops, bottoms, shoes, jewelry and amazing (amazing!) home décor items. You can filter through all of their goodies by color, length, designer & style on their awesome website. Take a look at this week’s Weekend Wardrobe, then go take advantage of their 30% off sale on holiday wear!
I first discovered Solvang, California during a camping trip at Pismo Beach. My friends insisted we stop through this adorable Danish paradise on the way back to LA. I was completely enamored with the quiet streets shaded by beautiful trees, small town charm & hospitality from local shop & restaurant owners and of course the wines from the Santa Ynez Valley. I made a mental note to return, and unlike a million other mental notes that never come to fruition, this one did. Scott and I took the 2-ish hour drive up the coast a few months back. Scroll down to view photos of our trip & a few places and people you must visit when you take yours.
We stayed at the Hamlet Inn, a cute hotel that’s part of the Shelter Social Club family. Its location couldn’t be better. You can walk to any restaurant, tasting room and shop in town, and it’s right across the street from Paula’s Pancake House and the Solvang Brewing Company. How cute is the room and those bikes?!
After dropping our bags, we were anxious to explore. We didn’t get very far because our lunch destination was also right across the street. (See? Perfect location!) The Succulent Café offers a relaxing setting to enjoy savory sandwiches, salads filled with ingredients from local farms, a charcuterie bar and fresh lemonade. The cheese plate and spicy fried chicken sandwich made with Point Reyes blue cheese & Sriracha ranch were both ridiculously good. Stop by for lunch (closed on Tuesdays) for a casual grab & go type of experience, or for dinner for full-service fanciness. Breakfast is also offered on weekends.
After lunch, we strolled through town, admiring the Danish culture and meeting friendly local horses and dogs along the way.
Royal Oaks was our first wine stop thanks to the recommendation and free tasting vouchers from the Hamlet Inn. After wine, we skipped over to the Solvang Restaurant walk-up window for a taste of the town’s famous treat: Aebleskivers. Delish!
In need of a pick-us-up, we sipped on espresso outside of Cafe Dolce. This lil’ shop also offers fresh juices and other sweet treats.
Now for the best part of the trip! I met Amanda, one of the owners of Cali Love Wine and lead singer of Spun Honey, on that first trip to Solvang. When I told her we were coming back for a more legit visit, she was kind enough to give me so many amazing recommendations on what to do in her sweet town. We had so much fun hanging with her and Jill. Thanks again for showing us around, new friends!
You must stop into Cali Love on your trip to Solvang. I mean, their tasting room is a guitar museum! And their wines? Yum. I think it was the Pink Moon Syrah Rosé that sealed the deal on me joining my very first wine club. I can’t wait to get my fall shipment! Stop by to enjoy a few sips during the day (closed on Tuesdays) or on Saturday nights for live music! Yahhoo, can’t wait to get back to see these sweet faces!
My obsession for well-crafted mustaches is no secret, so I of course fell head over heels in whisker love when I heard about Movember, the leading global organization committed to saving and improving the lives of men affected by prostrate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health problems. Since its launch in 2003, the company has raised over $550 million by encouraging men to grow mustaches (over 4 million of them so far) during the month of November in order to spark conversation and raise funds and awareness. Amazing!
Scott has decided to become a Mo Bro. My man is known for having a pretty gnarly beard (sigh!) but the official rules state you must start fresh. So we headed over to Movember HQ, which is conveniently located in our lovely hood of Culver City.
The cool dudes and dudettes of Movember are buddy buddy with the cool dudes and dudettes of the Blind Barber, and they’ve opened up Movember & Co., a barbershop inside Movember HQ. This particular evening, they were offering free shaves and coffee with their friends LA Coffee Club & Vittoria Coffee. We even scored a sweet pair of mustachioed MeUndies!
Barber Eric worked his magic and hooked Scott up with a luxurious close shave (and a tall boy PBR). It’s been about a year since I’ve seen that baby face! <insert giggle>
After the shave, we were treated to a tour of the Movember offices thanks to a new friend and PR contact for Movember, Abbie Rumery. The setting reminded me of my start-up days, sending my weetle heart fluttering. What a great organization to work for! No wonder the entire staff was constantly smiling. (It wasn’t just the PBR.)
I don’t know about you, but I love a good necklace that likes to party. With the holidays coming up (ALREADY?!), your social calendar is no doubt filling up with festive occasions. Check out these party necklaces that are sure to stop traffic in the eggnog line.

I adore the Culver Hotel, a historic landmark that opened in downtown Culver City in 1924. Its history is very Hollywood—John Wayne is rumored to have won it in a poker game and it housed over 120 Munchkins during the filming of the Wizard of Oz. The hotel’s swanky decor and nightly live music create a romantic and magical atmosphere.
I’ve enjoyed many laid-back nights sipping cocktails on velvet lounges while watching black & white flicks screened on the wall in the hotel’s classy lobby. I’ve also experienced (and participated in) lively evenings where swing dancers scooted across the small dance floor, bewitched by the sounds of Dave Stuckey & the Hot House Gang.
Speaking of cocktails, meet the Cucumber Mule, a delicious concoction of American Harvest vodka, fresh lime juice, muddled cucumber and Fever Tree ginger beer. Stop by the Culver Hotel to enjoy this month’s Drink of the Month during their daily happy hour from 4-7pm. Live music starts around 7:30pm. While you’re there, check out the Velvet Lounge in the back, up the stairs.
Another favorite: The Bulleit Old-Fashioned made with Bulleit Bourbon, Angostura bitters, orange bitters and a sugar cube.
Have you been to the Culver Hotel? What’s your favorite poison?
