I moved to San Antonio from Austin just before high school. I love going back to see my family, stuff my face with tamales and queso (and margaritas) and stop into my favorite shops. The city has changed so much, and I really enjoyed experiencing the new flavor during this trip. The first thing Scott and I did when we got into town was meet my dad AKA Daddy Rip at my favorite quirky health-Mex joint, Adelante. The cash only restaurant is super laid-back, colorful and serves delicious fare. I’m obsessed with the Poblano soup and veggie quesadillas. Rip always orders the Summer Plate. This is a must when you’re in town.

GUYS! The next few posts on the blog will be primarily about LA (with a few travel posts peppered in). WHY, YOU ASK? BECAUSE SCOTT AND I ARE MOVING TO AUSTIN!!! Yep. I can’t believe it. I am finally moving back home to Austin. I am laughing maniacally with joy as I write this. I can’t wait to start a new chapter with Scott and explore and get to know my city again. What does this mean for the blog? COOL STUFF AND THINGS, OF COURSE! I will still be sharing pics from our trips to everywhere, you’ll just see a lot more posts about things to see and do around Austin. Don’t offer to help us load our Uhaul just yet—we’re not headed out until late August. We have the whole summer to soak in LA.
In honor of National Beer Day, I’m sharing my photos from the 2015 LA Beer Fest! This was the third year I attended the event, which showcased over 200 beers at the LA Center Studios. Highlights were the Stella airstream, kick-arse jams from the Black Crystal Wolf Kids and mustache rides courtesy of the Traveler Beer Co. Oh, and of course there was the beer. My favorites this year were the Enegren Brewing Company (which started in the dorm rooms at LMU), Royal Jamaican Alcoholic Ginger Beer, the Einstök seasonal Arctic Berry and Shiner’s Ruby Redbird. YUM. Enjoy the pics, then go grab yourself a brew!
Poketo, how I do love thee? Let me blog the ways. (Okay sorry, but this shop makes me feel all the feels!) Scott and I stumbled into Poketo while on our adventure in downtown LA. It’s full of the most amazing products, and I was jazzed to find that a large amount are made by people I already follow on Instagram. Yes! Items I ooh and ahh at while scrolling through my Insta feed are all housed in this one place! Small Spells? Yes. Pendleton? Yep. Those cool bags from Apolis? Uh-huh. Poketo isn’t just a cool shop in downtown LA though. They host some super crafty workshops like food styling, paper flower making and visual social media, taught by one of my other favorite people to follow on Instagram, Bonnie Tsang. (Guh, I wish I was in town that day!) Even better: The classes are held at the LINE Hotel in Koreatown. Fancy. Not a local? No worries, you can still get your hands on their goodies. Below are my favorite home finds on Poketo’s website.
Hey! Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I’ve rounded up some of my favorite green things. Not that you care because you’re probably already elbow deep in a pitcher of green beer. ‘Tis the season!
Thank goodness for Instagram. I mean, I get to connect with all kinds of cool people. Brilliant bloggers, adventure seekers, sidecar-riding pups, rich dogs, musicians, my favorite cities, tastemakers in Tokyo and food trucks. GLORIOUS FOOD TRUCKS! Scott and I had a date set today for coffee and laptop-ing, but we hadn’t decided on a location yet. Enter Instagram. The first thing I do every day is scan my Instagram feed. (Guilty.) One of the first posts I saw was this one instructing me to head to a new coffee spot in my hood called Coffee Commissary and eat some damn good grub from Free Range LA.
